Red Lacquer Chinese Sideboard From Dongbei - Ca 1920 Origin - India This multi-use rustic marble bowlThis is an original Chinese red lacquered sideboard from Dongbei (Manchuria) and was made in the 1920's. 'Dong' means East 'Bei' means North the region of their origin. These were used in a similar way to altar tables and usually, a family ancestor portrait would be hung above. Joss sticks were lit daily & placed on the top, for the well being of the household. The beautiful decorative painting depicts butterflies and birds among geometric shapes.
