Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with bar, consisting of a double sided circular laurel leaf wreath wrapped in ribbon, the obverse bearing a raised and leftward facing profile of Emperor Napoleon III, circumscribed by name and title, the reverse bearing a central battle names of CUMBRES CERRO BORREGO SAN LORENZO PUEBLA MEXICO, circumscribed by an inscription
